Tactical Leadership Programme

tlp_img1

In 1996, Air Base 5 became the host base for a multinational deployment of the Tactical Leadership Programme (TLP), with the participation of the F-16s from Squadron 201.
The TLP program is a tactical course aimed at enhancing leadership capabilities for fighter pilots during flight operations.
This course consists of both theoretical and practical phases, including tactical flights in Composite Air Operations (COMAO) scenarios tailored to various specific operational scenarios.

Recognized by NATO, the TLP program is managed and executed according to Alliance standards, promoting safe and effective joint and combined operations.
Through participation in this program, the Portuguese Air Force seeks to improve leadership and tactical skills for pilots and support teams while reinforcing its image as a modern and efficient Air Force on the international stage, highlighting the importance of advanced training and international cooperation.

Since then, the Air Force has participated in various TLP courses, both involving F-16 crews and mission support elements in the Intelligence field.
As a testament to the program's value for national crews, Portugal is currently in the process of becoming a permanent member of the TLP.
