Alienation to Romanian Air Force
On September 30, 2013, Portugal signed a contract with Romania for the sale of 12 F-16 MLU aircraft.
This task would become one of the most ambitious and complex programs for the Portuguese Air Force to date. It involved conducting a 'General Overhaul' on 13 engines, preparing 12 aircraft in a specific software and hardware configuration for the Romanian Air Force, and providing training for mechanics, mission planners, and pilots.
Upon completion, this program was considered a huge success within the F-16 community. It not only resulted in the sale of aircraft but also contributed to the modernization and operational capability of an allied country.
