Engine Transformation Structure
To convert the 25 engines acquired to equip the second F-16 Squadron under the Peace Atlantis II program, the Engine Transformation Structure (ETS) was established at Air Base 5 in 2000.
A group of military personnel was selected to undergo training in this field, and the necessary tools and equipment were acquired to enable the transformation of F100-PW-200C engines to the digital control model F100-PW-220E at Air Base 5.
At that time, the Portuguese Air Force was the only military operator to achieve such a feat at an air base, alongside routine maintenance work.
The knowledge acquired through the engine transformation project was capitalized in future maintenance activities, saving the Air Force several million euros to this day.
